HGOCT: Risa Caraway

Name: Risa Caraway

Age: 19

District: 12 (2nd - 10, 3rd - 6)

Health issues:  She's had a few colds, bumps, and scrapes, but nothing that continues to affect her health.

Body type: Lean

Eye Color: Gray

Hair Color: Dark brown 

Strengths: Her biggest strength is the element of surprise.  She's small, quiet, and from a district in which tributes never have any training.  However, she has had a year to work in the district's dark and dangerous coal mines.  So, though she is still weak and very under-trained compared to some of the more prepared tributes, she has some upper-body strength, can handle a pick-axe, and is used to dealing with small, dark spaces.  She's not incredibly book smart, but she is creative.  And of course, she's used to hunger, different weather conditions, has a good bit of endurance, and knows some edible plants.


Vulnerabilities: She's much smaller than a lot of tributes will be, and doesn't have any real strength or weapons training. In close combat, she could easily be overpowered if the opponent managed to catch her.  She also has a lot of social anxieties and has been known to have panic attacks in extreme situations, so if she doesn't keep that in control she's in trouble.  Finally, she simply isn't cut out for hurting or killing others, and will be more likely to hesitate than strike when given the chance to go for the kill.

Family: She lives with her mother, aunt, uncle, and cousins (three boys, age 9, 6, and 5). She has no siblings. Her father was a peacekeaper who, when his captain found out he'd been getting friendly with a local, got shipped away to another district. She's never met him.

Significant other: A 21-year-old boy by the name of Logan Morrissey. They've been friends and more for 12 years, but neither has ever been in a rush to move things along.

Personality: She is overall a very happy and caring person. She has had social troubles - she didn't start talking at all until she was five, and she has only recently become some-what comfortable with talking to people she isn't already really familiar with. Other than her family, she is closest to Logan and the mayor's wife (though the mayor terrifies her). She is a very skittish and squeamish person, and is no doubt going to have a rough time dealing with the implications of going into the games.

Token: A small stone with the shape of a tree carved into it, hung from a strap in the form of a necklace. It was made by Logan for a coming birthday gift, but, well...

I feel like adding a little more about the mayor's wife and her relationship with Risa:
When Risa was little, her ma was always busy with adult things and her social issues meant she had few friends until she met Logan. She spent a lot of her free time wandering around the district, and one day happened upon the mayor's house when his wife was playing the piano. She instantly fell in love and spent the next several years sneaking around behind the house to listen to her play. This is actually were Logan first stumbled upon her, hiding in the trees behind the house. The mayor was a Scary Man who threw a shoe at her when he saw her once, so she never got the nerve to go near the house until Logan drug her to the door finally when she was eleven. The woman, who's only child had died in the uprising, quickly fell in love with Risa and was happy to let her hang about. She quickly began to teach Risa the piano in trade for house chores and small errands.
